Children's Bridge Adoption Panel

I am off to Mississauga and Ottawa this weekend to participate in a couple adoption panels. The panel will consist of myself (a birth mother) and three adult adoptees.

Although Children's Bridge is an international agency, they have asked me to speak about my open adoption. Educating others about open adoption is close to my heart. Open adoption has been around for years, however it's still feared and largely misunderstood. For that matter, that description would describe how many feel about birth parents as well. I love when I speak about open adoption and see "the light bulb moments" occurring. It means a lot to me when people hear me speak and than express that I have eased some of their fears.

I lived in Ottawa a decade ago, I miss it, and can't wait to spend Sunday morning hanging out in downtown Ottawa.

Although the site is based in Ontario, Canada, to date visitors have come from eleven countries and are welcome to participate. Have questions about the adoption system in Canada? Want to share your story or find others in your situation to talk with? Join in the Adoption Connections forums. Whether you are an adoptive parent, hopeful adoptive parents, considering adoption for your child, a birth parent, an adoptee or any other member of an adoptive or birth family, there is someone else at Adoption Connections who has been where you are now. The Adoption Connections forum is a way for those within the adoption community to support each other and to receive support from others who understand the trials, tribulations and joys of the adoption journey. We strive to offer a supportive environment where all are welcome.

Adoption Connections offers a Parent Registry where couples can have their profile displayed so that potential birth families can easily find the family they are seeking. Adoption Connections is a safe place to meet. Those considering adoption for their child can browse the parent profiles while in the privacy of their own homes without any pressures and may contact any couple they wish to at any time they feel comfortable doing so. This service is free for those considering placing a child for adoption.

Adoption Connections also offers consulting services on your profile. If you don't know where to start and would like a little guidance and direction, as well as feedback on your profile, I would be happy to assist you. I chose my son's parents based on their profile. Since 2004 I have assisted approximately 150 hopeful adoptive families in ensuring their profile is all that it can be.
